How to Keep Your Refrigerator Cool This Summer

As hot weather approaches, it is important to keep your refrigerator in optimum condition. After all, you do not want the food that you have prepared for all summer barbecues to go wrong. Here in Warrensville Heights we know it can be hot, especially with all humidity. But because every house in the area operates your air conditioner, your fridge will work longer than normal.

At Appliance Repair Cleveland we are here for all your questions about repairs and devices. But here are some useful tips that you can include to keep your refrigerator running all summer.

Separate your devices
Now we know that sometimes this is completely out of your control, but if you can, keep your refrigerator away from appliances such as the stove or the dishwasher. The heat generated by these devices can cause your refrigerator to work harder to keep the temperature cool. This can increase your electricity bill, something nobody wants.

Keep your fridge filled

You may think that an empty refrigerator does not have to work so hard to stay cool, because it contains nothing. After all, there is nothing to be cool, right? This is a myth that has often affected many refrigerators. If you keep your fridge in stock, you can actually control the temperature. If you have just placed a few things in the fridge, placing large jugs of water as placeholders can make your fridge think it's full and you don't have to work so hard. You save money and keep your fridge happy. It is a victory for both parties!

Inspect and clean the joints
Most people don't pay much attention to the seal around the perimeter of their refrigerator door, but they should really do it. That small amount of rubber or plastic is essential to ensure that your refrigerator works properly. Also known as a door seal, the seal can wear out over time due to general wear. You must remove the dirt from this seal because dirt can wear the seal. You do not have to invest in special cleaning products, hot water and soap work well. One of our favorite ways to test your stamp is to close a dollar bill at the door so that half of it sticks out. If the board is not tight enough, the bill will not be held in place. So if the bill drops, you know it's time to clean or even replace the seal.

Do not place hot leftovers in the refrigerator
You may think that you put the leftovers in the fridge after cooking, but it is not as efficient as you think. Placing hot food in the refrigerator can significantly raise the temperature, making the compressor more difficult to cool the refrigerator. Allow the food to cool to room temperature, and this helps neutralize the temperature when you put it back in the refrigerator. Of course, do not leave your food outside for long, especially meat. The FDA states that food should not be left out of the refrigerator for more than two hours (one hour if the temperature is above 90 degrees Fahrenheit).

Keep the condenser coils clean
The condenser coils in your refrigerator give off heat, making the compressor work. If dust, dirt and especially animal hairs accumulate around the coils, the system may overheat, causing the compressor to break and your refrigerator to keep food cold inside. Most of the spools are located in the back of the refrigerator, you must pull on the wall to gain access. You may be able to reach them from the front when you remove the grill. Use a vacuum cleaner or a brush to clean the coils every few months. You will want to be sure if you have a pet that moves regularly.

Cover your food
It can be tempting, especially if you are in a hurry, to want to keep a bowl of food in the fridge without covering it. However, you really have to take the extra time to bring your food to a nearest container. When your food is left uncovered, the moisture in the food is released into the air and your refrigerator is forced to work harder to keep things fresh and dry. If you cover your food, it will also stay fresh and will not dry out strangely.
